Quiet places to work in the capital!

As you know London can be far from peaceful at times. You may just want to take a step out of the fast paced hustle and bustle around you to catch up on some work, or even just 30 minutes to sit in the quiet and have a read! A place where you can work in peace is essential to your productivity, and some times even your sanity.

Barbican Centre

A good place to find tranquility is the Barbican Centre. The Wifi there was updated in 2012 giving you faster connection that would receive with a typical household broadband, meaning you can work with speed and never be stopped with a buffering page. There is no threat of a dead battery to stop you either as there are plenty of plugs to supply you power. You won’t have to leave your work station once you are all set up as there are cafes and restaurants all under one roof and with a cup of tea starting at £1.70 what is there not to like?

The opening times are really flexible too allowing you to work when you want to;
Mon–Sat: 9am–11pm
Sun: 11am-11pm
Bank Holidays: 12 noon–11pm

The British Library

This is possibly the supreme of all quiet places! To give you a rough gage of the wealth of knowledge captured within this building I shall list some facts below to highlight how amazing this resource is!

* The collection includes well over 150 million items, in most known languages
* 3 million new items are added every year
* We have on-site space for over 1,200 Readers
* We receive a copy of every publication produced in the UK and Ireland

On top of these amazing resources there is free wifi, beautiful writing desks and you are cocooned by masterpieces. If you fancied a break why not pop downstairs to the Sir John Ritblat Treasures gallery, where you can view gems like Shakespeare’s First Folio, Jane Austen’s notebooks and Alice’s own copy of Alice in Wonderland.

The opening times are a little less crazy but would be a welcome place of tranquillity.
Monday – Thursday 9.30am-8pm
Friday 9.30am-6pm
Saturday 9.30am-5pm
Sunday 11am-5pm

The British Library is located on Euston Road next to King’s Cross and St Pancras International rail stations.
You can also use the Hammersmith and City, Piccadilly, Northern, Circle, District, Metropolitan and Victoria Underground lines, there are also many bus services stop on Midland Road and Euston Road right next to the library.

Bloomsbury Coffee Shop

Ok so maybe not the quietest place to work compared to the others but what better way to spend your working hours with coffee, tea, smoothies, and fresh juices! There is even a daily bake, with the fresh produce coming out at 8am. There is even a daily changing menu meaning you could work there all week and be surprised with what they will have to offer you (the food is a strong reason to love this location!). The low hum of background noise is a warm welcome when your working away sometimes brings you back down to reality! The free wifi is a great help when you are trying to research as well as work!

The opening hours are a little short here but great if you want to just have a quick session and some food!
The Coffee House opens at 8am for breakfast, which is served until 11am during the week and 1.30pm on weekends and bank holidays. They close at 4pm during the summer months!

With a range of places to find tranquillity when you work there is no excuse to miss that deadline!

Have fun studying!
