London Fashion Week 2016

If you’re in London you cannot avoid the buzz of fashion week – it is everywhere from the radio to the newspaper. As one of the four biggest fashion weeks with Milan, New York, and Paris, these fashion hubs all try to outdo each other by hosting the biggest catwalk shows by the world’s best designers. London’s fashion week is organised by the British Fashion Council, and takes place twice a year, giving international talent a chance to present their latest collections to London and of course to the global press, buyers, bloggers, and photographers.

This Fabruary (February) fashion week takes place from the 19th- 23rd. There is no set location for fashion week, with shows being held at some of the best looking locations around the capital from Somerset House to The British Museum itself, although other designers have held their shows in more original locations, such as Matthew Williamson’s show in 2011 in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern.
Entry to these shows is a breeze if you are big in the fashion world, and if you’re registered on the LFW site, you receive your stash of invites to individual shows in the post. If, however, you are a fashion civilian, it’s incredibly tough to get into the private shows. Although don’t take your fashion cap off just yet as there is a programme of public shows which take place away from the official schedule.

– If you really do not want to miss out on the catwalk shows themselves then you can catch live streams giving you a front row experience right from the comfort of your own home! You can grab that Fashion week vibe right in your front room, you don’t have to worry if you want that mid catwalk snack- feel free to snack away! http://www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/live.aspx
– If you are looking for a more of a gallery experience, then Madame Tussauds has what you are looking for. When fashion week is here you live in the hope that you will bump into a supermodel in the coffee line. However, you may no longer have to wish as Madame Tussauds has created an all new backstage LFW experience, with Cara and Kendall (in wax form of course). Each supermodel attended sittings with Madame Tussauds’ sculptors to create lifelike new wax figures, which will be waiting for you to take selfies with. There will also be a runway, on which you can practice your best model strut, in front of Anna Wintour herself. In addition to all of this many other exciting surprises can be found in the experience. You also have the opportunity to take home some fashion filled goodie bags! What more could you ask for!

– One great tip when at LSW is to check out the Graduate designers fashion week. It is the most exclusive shopping experience and has a great selection dedicated to up and coming designers. These are people just out of a London design school and are looking to promote their clothes to the fashion industry. These are the bargain pieces and are a great way to update your wardrobe with clothing that is unique and undiscovered. You never know what this piece could be worth in the future, this is the perfect way to support British designers and local products rather than your normal household names.
– If you are looking for a cocktail pit stop in the centre of the fashion week then the Savoy is the place to head to over on the Strand. Only a five minute walk from Somerset house, you can take a seat at the American bar which is just off the beautiful lobby where you can grab yourself a cocktail. The American bar has always been a popular spot for fashionistas, this includes people such as Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and even Princess Diana.

If you’re in London you cannot miss out on this exciting experience!!
