What to do this weekend in London – 19/20 January 2019

How to keep your new year’s resolutions for this year

Got a new year’s resolution to stay fit, focus more on your own mind and be less stressed? We picked out the best venues for you to reset your mind, body and soul this weekend! For sure we also searched for cheap or even free events which makes a start in a healthier life easier. A survey showed that only 9% of the people think they reach their goals. So we want to make sure you belong to this 9% or help to increase this small number. Because even when you do not feel like you were successful with your goals you’ll make a bigger improvement than those who didn’t even have a New Year’s resolution. So keep going! We are sure you’ll achieve everything you want.

Buddhist Centre open day

If you ever wondered what’s going on in the Buddhist Centre, this is your chance! They open their doors for you on Sunday from 11 am until 5 pm. Everything will be for free so it’s perfect to try something new. You can practise yoga, meditation and mindfulness. They also teach Buddhism there and have some nice installations inside. Someone called this ‘the most positive place in London’. Everybody is welcome even if they’re not a Buddhist. The Centre also has a vegetarian restaurant, a charity shop and a residential common.  They are a part of the Triratna Buddhist Community. It’s a worldwide movement where people try to live with Buddhist thinking. You can find the Centre close to the Bethnal Green station so it’s also close to our Bethnal Green residence.

Ran faster by James Podle

This is for the runners or for those who want to start running. It’s a running technique session about how you can be a better athlete and a faster runner. It’s tomorrow 19th of January 2019 from 10 am until 11:30 am. Make sure you book this in advance as you can’t just turn up without booking, even though it’s for free.

Disco Yoga

This isn’t at the weekend but quite fun so we decided to write about it. It’s for those who don’t want to miss partying and drinks, those who struggle with their resolution to a healthier life and think everything healthy is boring. There you can have all in one. Yoga for your body, mind and soul. Disco where you can enjoy dancing, chatting and of course having some drinks. But you have to earn your cocktail or mocktail because you will receive it after the class and one free drink is included in your ticket. The music for Disco Yoga will be Funk & Soul, Retro and 80’s music. It’s on Tuesday, 22nd of January from 7:30 pm until 8:30 pm at Trapeze in Old Street tube station. Book your tickets in advance, you can get them from £16 and don’t forget it includes one free cocktail or mocktail.

This venue is really close to our Liverpool Street Residence.

Winterlights at Canary Wharf

Here’s something for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you have a resolution or not or don’t have something to focus. But even here you can get focused and relax while you enjoy the breath-taking light installations in the fresh air. Canary Wharf presents Winter Lights with a huge of impressive light installations and Interactive Art. So why don’t you go for a walk on Saturday from 5 pm until 10 pm. It’s a free light festival which is running until the 26th of January. Here is a map to help you find an installation.
