Airport Transfers
Transfer options and arrival planning for your trip to London.
If you’d like help getting from the airport to your accommodation, you have a few options. This page explains what’s available and how to plan a smooth arrival.
Quick points
- London airports can be far from your accommodation — allow plenty of time for travel.
- If you are staying in a homestay, plan your flight so you can arrive within typical check‑in times (see Arriving in London).
- If you need to arrive outside typical check‑in times, tell us as early as possible. This is at the host’s discretion.
Your transfer options
Most students choose one of the following:
Public transport
Often the most affordable option. Depending on the airport and your destination, you may use trains, the Underground, the Elizabeth line, or coaches. Journey times and fares vary — check the latest routes before you travel.
Licensed taxi or ride-hailing
Convenient if you have heavy luggage or you are arriving late. Costs can be higher, especially in peak traffic.
Safety tip: Use licensed taxis or trusted ride‑hailing apps. Do not accept unofficial taxi offers inside or outside the terminal.
Pre‑booked airport transfer
If you prefer someone to meet you at arrivals, a pre‑booked transfer can reduce stress on your travel day. If you’d like this, contact us and we can advise on options (availability and pricing vary).
Transfer rates
| Airport/Station | Price per transfer (each way) |
|---|---|
| Heathrow | £130 * |
| Gatwick | From £150 |
| Stansted | From £150 |
| Luton | From £150 |
| King’s Cross St Pancras | Available upon request |
* £20.00 supplement required if the accommodation is on the East or South East of London
When a pre‑booked transfer can be helpful
- You are arriving very early or late
- You have a lot of luggage
- You are new to London and want a simple ‘meet and greet’ option
- You are travelling with a parent/guardian
If you want us to help arrange a transfer
To help us advise, please include:
- Your arrival airport and terminal (if known)
- Your flight number and landing time
- The number of passengers
- How much luggage you have
- Your mobile number (and WhatsApp if you use it)
- Your accommodation address (or confirm you are booking a London Homestays homestay)
If your flight time changes, tell us as soon as you can so we can update any arrangements.
Homestay arrival planning
If you are staying in a homestay, you will need to agree your arrival time with your host in advance. Most hosts have daytime commitments, so evening arrivals on weekdays are usually easiest.
For typical check‑in times and what to do when you arrive, please read: Arriving in London.
Staying in touch on travel day
Many hosts use WhatsApp, which can be a simple way to share updates if your flight is delayed, you’re stuck in traffic, or you need help finding the home (for example, a location pin).
If you are delayed, message your host as soon as you know. If you can’t reach your host and it is urgent, contact London Homestays.
