UK Student Visa Guidelines

We’re an accommodation provider, not an immigration adviser. Visa and entry requirements can change, so please use official guidance and follow your school/college instructions.

Start with official guidance

Before you book flights, check what permission you need to enter the UK (visa, ETA, or visa-free entry). The quickest way is the GOV.UK ‘Check if you need a UK visa’ tool.

Common study and short-stay routes

Your school/college is best placed to advise what route applies to your course. These GOV.UK pages explain common options:

What London Homestays can provide

If your visa application asks for accommodation information, we can provide confirmation documents once your booking is confirmed.

Typically available after confirmation:

  • Booking confirmation (your dates, meal plan and agreed accommodation details)
  • Invoice and receipt (as applicable)
  • Host contact details and arrival information (provided closer to arrival or in your confirmation pack)

We cannot advise on visa eligibility or outcomes, and we cannot act as a visa sponsor. If you need a document in a specific format, tell us what you need when you apply.

Timing and planning

Visa processing times vary by country and application type. We recommend applying for accommodation early, especially for peak summer dates.

Good planning tips:

  • Apply for homestay as soon as you know your dates and school/work location.
  • Do not book non‑refundable flights until you understand your entry requirements and timelines.
  • Use the GOV.UK processing time checker for current estimates.

Using your homestay address on forms

Some forms ask for an address in the UK. If your homestay booking is confirmed, use the accommodation details we provide in writing. If you have not confirmed a homestay yet, follow your school/college instructions for what to enter.

Important: do not use your host’s address for banking, credit or NI registration without the host’s written permission (typically for stays of 6+ months). Where possible, use your school/college address or other approved alternatives.

Students aged 16–17

For individual placements, we can accommodate students aged 16–17. We do not place under‑16s individually. For safeguarding information, please see our Safety hub.
