Worthing

Worthing is a large seaside town in West Sussex. It is situated 10 miles (16 km) west of Brighton.

Worthing Museum and Art Gallery was built in 1908 as the town’s museum and library. The Dome Cinema was built in 1910. It is still open, and is one of Britain’s oldest operational cinemas. Worthing has three theatres: the Art Deco Connaught Theatre, the Baroque Pavilion Theatre and the Modernist.

Since 2008, Worthing Pier has been the home of the annual International Birdman competition. The competition involves human ‘birdmen’ attempting to fly off the end of a pier into the sea for prize money.

Rail

The borough has five railway stations: East Worthing, Worthing, West Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea and Goring-by-Sea. All are on the West Coastway Line and are managed and operated by the Southern train operating company. Regular services run to destinations such as London, Gatwick Airport, Brighton, Littlehampton and Portsmouth.
