Southend

Southend_on_Sea-sunset Southend is a seaside resort town on the north side of the Thames estuary 40 miles (64 km) east of central London.

Attractions

Southend Pleasure Pier
Southend on Sea from one mile out along the pier, the world’s longest pleasure pier
The Kursaal
The Kursaal was one of the earliest theme parks. The entrance hall is a bowling alley arcade.
The Cliff Lift
A short funicular railway links the seafront to the High Street level of the town.
Adventure Land
An amusement park Adventure Island has over 50 rides. It also includes the Sea-Life Adventure aquarium.
Art on the Railings
Art on the Railings is a regular exhibition for local artists who display their work on Pier Hill.
Shopping
There are regular vintage fairs and markets. A record fair is frequently held at West Leigh Schools. Southend High Street has two shopping centre’s – The Victoria and The Royals. Southend High Street has many chain stores.
Focal Point Gallery
Focal Point Gallery is South Essex’s gallery for contemporary visual art.
Southend Museums Service
Southend Museums Service, operates a number of historic attractions, an art gallery and a museum in the town. These include: The Beecroft Art Gallery, Southchurch Hall, Prittlewell Priory and the Central Museum on Victoria Avenue.
The TAP Gallery
The TAP Gallery holds art exhibitions, talks and workshops.
Theatres
The Cliffs Pavilion is a large building to host concerts and performances on ice. The Edwardian Palace Theatre shows plays from professional troupes and repertory groups, as well as comedy acts. New Empire Theatre. is used more by amateur groups.

Transport

Rail

Southend is served by two National Rail lines. Running from Southend Victoria north out of the town is the Liverpool Street line, a branch of the Great Eastern Main Line operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. The services operate to London Liverpool Street via Prittlewell, Southend Airport, Rochford, Hockley, Rayleigh,Wickford, Billericay, Shenfield and Stratford.

The London, Tilbury and Southend Railway, the Fenchurch Street line, is operated by c2c and runs from Shoeburyness in the east of the borough, west through Thorpe Bay, Southend East, Southend Central toFenchurch Street in London via Benfleet and Basildon or Tilbury and Barking. Additionally, one service from Southend Central each weekday evening terminates at Liverpool Street.

Buses

Local public transport is provided by two main bus companies, Arriva Southend and First Essex Buses.

High season is 1 February to 31 July and 1 September to 31 October.
Low season is 1 to 31 January, 1 to 31 August and 1 November to 31 December.

Supplement for leaders/drivers in twin room is £3.00 pppn on above prices.
Supplement for leaders in single room, subject to availability, is £6.00 pppn on above prices.
Supplement for drivers in single room is £10.00 pppn on above prices.
Extra packed lunch is £5.00 pppn.
A supplement of £2.00 per person per night will be added for 2 night stay bookings.

8 nights or more = £0.00
