London art galleries

There are so many different art galleries around London, each of them having a different feel, and there is such a range in the exhibitions to see. With so many art locations, there is something for every taste of art work from fashion to modern art to something a little older like John William Waterhouse’s painting of The Lady of Shalott.

Something that caught my eye and an exhibition that I definatly want to take a trip to is the Coco Chanel exhibition at the Saatchi gallery. ‘Mademoiselle Privé’ will cover three floors and will guide you through the wonderful world of Chanel. The best part is that the exhibition is free to enter and starts from the 13th October to 1st November. Duke Of York’s HQ, King’s Road, London SW3 4RY www.saatchigallery.com

If you are into something a little out there why not take a visit to Sonia Delaunay’s exhibition at Tate Modern. She was an abstract artist that was a key figure in the Parisian avant-garde. I have visited this myself as I am really drawn in by her work and I truly enjoyed it. It is, however, a little on the pricey side at £14.50 for adult entry and is ending on the 9th August, but if you are an art lover this is an excellent exhibition that should not be missed! If you’re not interested in this exhibition there are loads more to see aside from this – the exhibition spaces here have such a lovely feel to them. A not-to-miss gallery!

The photographer’s gallery is lovely and bright, and you really can take your time to just wonder and absorb the art work that is being displayed. Currently the gallery is showing an exhibition by Shirley Baker, a social documentary photographer, known for “Women, Children and Loitering Men”. It conveys a portrait of the urban decline of late twentieth century Britain, despite being the only woman practicing street photography in Britain at the time, her work received little attention throughout her sixty-five year career. The exhibition looks truly amazing and is high up on my list of things to do! A film which gives you some background to her work can be found on the BFI website, the video is its self really eye opening and has a great vintage feel to it! http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-demolition-and-redevelopment-in-salford-1968/
Advanced bookings mean the price for this exhibition is £2.50 bargain!
